Fort Columbia was one of three coast artillery forts protecting the mouth of the Columbia River, along with Fort Stevens and Fort Canby. Construction started in 1896 and the fort was decommissioned in 1947 and was handed over to the state of Washington in 1950.
I didn’t spend a huge amount of time exploring Fort Columbia which is now a state park. This was the sixth coast artillery fort I had been to in a relatively short timeframe, and by now they all started looking the same. 🙂
