I have been in Austin since leaving Florida back near the start of September. For those of you not wanting to do the math, that has been about 6 months.

I made a beeline to the Texas State Capital for one reason – I met someone and wanted to see if there was anything there. 6 months later I can say that there is.

The story about how I met Kathy is an interesting one, but that’s for another time. Let’s just say that it involved me passing through Austin in October 2013 right after I became a Texan and was hungry for some barbecue. Like I said, a story for another time.

We didn’t start dating right away. As a matter of fact, there wasn’t anything between us until the next year. Other than the occasional text contact, sharing our travels, we didn’t talk. Then I learned that she was going to be in northern New Mexico, with a trail running group she is a part of. I happened to be in Albuquerque, so I headed up north to join them in Angel Fire for the week.

Next we met up in Iowa where Kathy was doing the RAGBRAI, or annual bicycle ride across Iowa. We also spent time together in Illinois.

Things were starting to develop and we decided that maybe we would give this a go. But that would be a bit hard with me cruising around the country, so I decided that I would spend some more time on the road and take a very indirect route to Austin.

So that is the story of why I have been in Austin for half a year. Why I haven’t been traveling (I am now back on the road thru the summer).

I had hoped to find someone during my journey. I had no idea how or when. I figured it would happen when it happened. I had no idea it would come so soon. But this is something that is out of my control. The type of thing that you don’t question. You just go with and see where the journey takes you.
